Well, we used to have Yahoo Site Explorer, we have a pseudo Google Site Explorer, and of course you are going to ask, what about Bing Site Explorer? Well, let me tell you…
Bing site explorer is very similar to Google’s webmaster tools. Now that Yahoo and Microsoft have joined forces in the search engine world in order to attempt to compete against Google, they have combined their webmaster tools as well.
You can sign up and authenticate your site with Bing Webmaster Tools here. By doing so, you allow yourself as the admin of a site to see the following potential benefits:
- See your site as Bing does
- Share site information with Bing
- Optimize for search
- See who is linking to you
Do not discount the traffic that you can also get from Yahoo and Bing search engine land. Even though Google is of course the dominant force, things may not always be this way. Also, even if you can get an additional 10-20% of traffic from these search engines or more, wouldn’t you want to do that?
Yahoo site explorer has merged with Bing to some degree, but unfortunately the very open and public feature of being able to search for backlinks against a given domain was not kept around. Similar to Google Webmaster Tools, you’ll need to sign up and authenticate your site.
Bing does not offer the same ‘link:KEYWORD’ trick that google offers in their regular search results. This means you really have to be the owner of a site in order to see any backlinking information.
They do offer the ability to see your backlinks by exploring the following:
- Inbound Links (Explore links to your site with anchor text)
- Deep Links (URL and impressions)
Overall I like Google Webmaster Tools better, but Bing Webmaster Tools cannot be discounted and it does provide backlink information for site owners.
