I was really hoping that somehow Web SEO Analytics, and it took me a little while to make up my mind on this tool, primarily because of my initial impression when I first did a search using the search box.

As I unwrapped the digital bits, you could hear a pin drop…

The excitement was killing me, and although the list of backlink tools and services is long, I somehow thought that this one would hold some great promise.  In a nutshell, the website design is done well, and the outer polish is there, but when you peel back the layer a little bit I was just left scratching my head…. at least at first.  Guess why?

Using Web SEO Analytics The Right Way

The reason was because I used the default search box rather than browsing directly to their Link Popularity tool.   This tool is buried deep on the navigation bar on the left hand side, but it seems to be the most useful of the bunch and the most applicable to what we are after: that of finding the backlinks to a given page or website!

Although the other tools may be useful down the road, don’t waste your time using anything else on the site before you get familiar with the Link Popularity Tool output and capabilities.

The data feed they use appears to be from Majestic SEO.

With a free account you can basically one search per day, and within that search you’ll see up to 50 backlinks on the main search tab.  However, if you search under the Link Popularity tool you’ll get up to 500 backlinks back with results powered by Majestic SEO.

The Free output is divided into a few sections:

  • Raw Urls (useful for extraction)
  • Total Backlinks Found (including EDU/Gov)
  • Total Class C subnets Found

From there it seems that you are required to sign up for some level of pro version of the service to be able to see more information.

Web SEO Backlink Analysis

In the Pro version you can see a lot more information evidently.   Presumably it will cover several of the data points that Mastic would have, but the Paid/Pro output appears to at least cover the following:

  • The Incoming Links of the Page
  • The PageRank values
  • The Domain Authority
  • Various Statistics about the Backlink Type & Link Quality
  • Anchor Text and Link Status (nofollow)
  • OBL of each back-link
It is good to see that they take both quality and quantity into consideration when dealing with back-link reports.

Web SEO Analytics Pricing

The pricing model for the various tiers is as follows:

I believe you would be charged in Euros, though I have not attempted to make a purchase so I can only speak from what I have seen on the outside and from the marketing materials that have been made available.  This might also be more useful to folks who work in Europe and prefer to purchase a more local package, or in a more local currency.

Between the Pro and the Free versions, there appear to be two versions of this tool:

  • SEO Pro Toolbox
  • SEO Toolbox

As far as I can tel, the SEO Toolbox appears to be the free tool available for use without any signups.  This is the same tool that limited me to one query per day.

SEO Toolbox v. SEO Toolbox Pro

According to the materials:

This SEO Analyzer is one of the most powerful tools in the Web SEO Analytics Toolbox.

The SEO Analyzer tool provides these basic segments:

  1. Domain Segment General domain info including domain authority, total links, Dmoz listing, age, and more.
  2. Traffic Segment – Traffic and Alexa Rank (we have Alexa for this)
  3. Page Segment – Number of links and pagerank, textual keywords, search engine indexing, page validation.
  4. Link Structure Segment – Detailed view of the link structure of the page, and list of broken links

Some of these could easily be replaced by webmaster tools or similar, and they don’t really interest me if I’m looking at the backlinks for my competition.   However, the features that really strike my fancy are the following in the Pro version:

  • SERP Analysis – Generate reports for the competition to include recommendations, action plans, keyword research, and statistics.  Helpful to analyze competitor’s domain linking information.   Domain battle takes this a step further and allows several domain features to be compared at once for competitor comparisons.
  • Blog Analyzer – for on-page SEO which is still a vital part of any SEO strategy, up to perhaps 25% or more, this tool helps to improve search engine rankings for a particular blog post.
  • Backlink Analysis – as we have already discussed, this is the meat and potatoes of our interest in this tool.
  • Backlink Hunter – not very many tools include a feature like this to help uncover possible places to put your high quality backlinks.   Searches through domains for keywords of your choice for places to get links.  Sorted by authority, rank, and a host of other useful features.  Contact information such as emails, phones, and addresses for domains to get backlinks from is also included!!

Link Structure – Report on optimizing the link structure of your pages.

Keyword Research and Difficulty – helping you to identify the correct keywords to spend your time on.   Similarly the difficulty tool will compare the relative ease of ranking for any given keyword and give you a competitive analysis for it.

All in all the host of features available is quite good, and the data source that is used has a solid reputation.

We recommend this tool with a thumbs up, with the only reservation that the free version makes it hard for you to fully know what you are getting into before you buy.
